Well hello....

....and welcome to my new blog in which I intend to post interesting and useful information in connection with my favourite subject - FOOD!

The name of this blog comes from a phrase that a colleague once used to describe a particularly pretty (but hugely over-priced and tiny) plate of food at a restaurant - that it was the sort of thing one would eat "on the way to the fridge". It's a phrase that has stuck with me and one which I employ regularly to describe those teeny weeny little portions (often arranged in a tower or "stack") that you tend to get in very smart eateries. You know the sort of thing - they often make them on the Great British Menu. Presented on a roof tile. And with foam. What is the attraction with foam?? I'm afraid it just looks like someone has spat on the plate to me. And mousse! Meaty mousses! Eugh!!! Anyway, sorry, I was  introducing my blog.....

Now, I'm not a lover of professional critics. Be it films, art, theatre or food, I think they can often be snobbish, petty and generally too clever for their own good. I would never base my decision on whether or not to go somewhere on the opinion of one person who I have never met, and I hate it when I read a review which basically slates an experience from start to finish. Having said that, one of the things that I really want to do with this blog is to post my experiences of eating out. I very much believe in the old adage "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all", therefore my policy will be, if I enjoyed it, I'll blog about it. If I didn't, I won't. Unless it was uncompromisingly dreadful, then I might post a warning. Or the customer service was terrible, then I might mention it too, as that's one of my real bug bears. Or....... Oh ok, I'm basically going to critique eating and drinking establishments and I'll generally try to be nice. Ok??

I'd also love to share articles, recipes, tips, hints, pictures and stories etc. Anything that relates to the world of food.

So I hope you come back again to see what else is going on, on the way to the fridge!

  1. The thing I hate more than foam is a smear of some thick sauce or another , you know the blob that kind of goes off into a point at one end like someone wiped their knife on the plate! Rubbish!
